KAJO 1 — Light & Connection
Opening on November 13th in Helsinki.

For this first edition in Finland, the birthplace of the project, we have chosen to present a selection of unique artworks by six artists from very different backgrounds, two of whom have come specially from France.
Using techniques as diverse as photography, sculpture, painting, embroidery, and light art, they attempt to give form to the invisible bridges born of interactions that characterise the human experience.
The showcased artworks reveal a unique and universal path of connection which also illuminates us. Like the fleeting trace of energy, left in by the gaze we cast from ourselves to ourselves, from ourselves to others, our environment, and to the entire universe.

About KAJO
KAJO is a non-profit cultural organisation which casts light on artists. We actively seek out unheard voices and fresh perspectives, bring their unique work into focus, and bridge the space between invisibility and being heard. To dismantle social, cultural and structural barriers, KAJO creates experiences, dialogues and networks that forge lasting connections among creators, audiences, private partners and institutions. By doing so, KAJO helps to build an inclusive art landscape.
In art, as elsewhere, it’s easier to choose to exclude than to include. To support certain artists or certain art forms rather than others. Because these art forms better correspond to our idea of contemporary creation. Or because these chosen artists have been fortunate enough to follow an obvious path in which they have not had to struggle to bring their vision to life.
KAJO has made the opposite choice, a bold and inclusive one, to be a bridge. A bridge that connects artists and creators from very different backgrounds and styles, whose art is clearly under-represented.
KAJO is a bridge that builds connections beyond visible and invisible boundaries of culture and origin, from North to South, East to West.
Those who consider art as a living language, just like English, know that this poetic language allows for direct communication, from human to human, from soul to soul. The language of KAJO is the universal and timeless language of people who want to share what inspires them through art. Those who regard their counterpart as a fellow human being, with a childlike curiosity that only the heart can recognize.
